Tree Sap

Ahhh, it is. Maple syrup time here in Ontario. What a treat, one we all look forward to. The sap from the maple trees is captured and boiled down to make that sweet nectar.

But when a tree is struck by lightning, that same tree sap comes to a boil, turns into steam and the high pressure blows the bark off the trunk.
How can that same sap react so differently to two different heats?
We are like that sap. Some things we just give away without anxious fear, but others we hold inside and they blow us apart.

Then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. (Leviticus 26:16, NIV)

That sounds awful doesn’t it? However by relieving your stress with music, prayer, or meditating on God’s word, you can avoid the blowing up kind of sap that tries to overcome you.

Prayer-Lord, when our sap comes to a boil, cool it off for us please. Amen.
