Matthew 6:24–No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions or whatever is trusted in.) (AMP)
“I lost my cat in November,” said the first neighbor. “He’s a longhaired gray male.” “Really”, replied the second. “I found my cat in November.”He’s a longhaired gray male!”
The participants hadn’t figured it out but the rest of us had! They were talking about the same cat! The first owner called her animal Sampson. He was left to fend for himself, roam outside and get his shots in the summer. The second called Sampson ‘Henry.’ Henry ate specialty cat food, stayed inside and got his shots in the winter!
One owner lets him run wild, with no provision and no rules. The other protects him, keeps him safe, coddles, cares for and provides for him. Who does Sampson/Henry belong to? If both owners called at the same time, where would Henry/Samson go? Is he wise enough to choose?
What about us? Have we made a decision about our owner? There is a God who loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die for us. Only He provides security and safety.
Prayer: Oh God, we seek you. We choose you by necessity and right as our owner. We want no other. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
