U.G.H. Thinking

What is your most detested task? Cleaning closets, bathrooms or the garage? Or is it loading the dishwasher, or worse, washing dishes by hand? Maybe it is balancing your checkbook, or editing a history paper? No matter the task, our feelings are the same. UGH!

I am not going to offer you up a bunch of platitudes, (I could!) but I won’t. I will however agree with you that some tasks definitely deserve the title of UGH. However, I’ve started to think of them this way.

  • U – Under
  • G – God’s
  • H – Hand

When we do those necessary but detested tasks, and think of them as something we do, because God is with us in them, somehow they become more blessing than detesting. Of course there is a verse or two for that!

Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, (Colossians 3:23, AMP)

Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:] (Philippians 2:5, AMP)

Prayer – Father, when something crops up that we don’t like to do, help us remember you did the hardest thing ever when you sent your Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for us. When we remember that, it seems but a small task to do our UGH jobs. Amen
