What?

True, today is Fathers Day, but it is also National Splurge Day and tomorrow is World Sauntering Day.

As far as I can figure out, World Splurge Day is just what it sounds like; a time for you to overeat, overspend and squander. Apparently, you must also use caution lest you spend the rest of the year paying up for the splurging.

World Sauntering Day is supposed to bring you to slow down mode, a sauntering through your life so to speak.

I doubt any realistic father is doing either. They will be getting the usual Fathers Day Tie, a home-cooked meal, and a homemade card. Then they get to play with the kids all day because that’s what it’s all about!

No matter how we remember our fathers now, no matter how we think they failed us then or perhaps even now, they are our fathers and we are here because of them. Don’t set impossible standards for them.  The only perfect Father is God.

As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. (2 Samuel 22:31, NIV)

The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. (Psalm 19:7, NIV)

Prayer- God, we trust our fathers- and our relationship with them- to you. Amen
