Who Are You

Dolly Parton is quoted as saying, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose. So, I ask you (and me!) these two questions.  “Who are we, really and do we live that truth on purpose.”

If we purport to be followers of the Christ, that means certain life style changes happen over time, because if we ask Jesus to be our Lord and Saviour, he sends his Holy Spirit to live in us. His nature becomes ours. It becomes unnatural and difficult to live at cross purposes with that.

However, if we are in name only Christians, or if we are not living in the Spirit, it is easy enough to say one thing and do another.

So dear Christian, are you really who you say you are? Or are you trying to fool people? It won’t get you far. God still knows.

Here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

One more time. Do you know who you are and do you live that way on purpose?
