Recently a radio program discussed what makes us Canadian. Most of the callers couldn’t explain what a Canadian is but they were clear on what we are not. We are not American, even though the differences are subtle.
I prefer to dwell on the ways we are the same. For instance we cross border travel with little distinction. We speak the same language, read the same best sellers and watch our favorite movies starring our favorite stars. We both celebrate our countries in the first week of July.
Yes today is Canada Day. We’ll parade, light fireworks, eat BBQ hotdogs and attend special events in our cities, including our capitol city of Ottawa. Happy Canada Day everyone!
More importantly, lots of us share belief in the one true God, and his Son Jesus who died for us on the cross. That makes us one and the same.
Galatians 3:27-28- For as many [of you] as were baptized into Christ [into a spiritual union and communion with Christ, the Anointed One, the Messiah] have put on (clothed yourselves with) Christ. There is [now no distinction] neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus (AMP).
So what are you doing July 1stand July 4th? No matter how we celebrate, let’s also cheer for our friends and neighbors (to the north/ or to the south/ around the world) who are more like us than not.
Hip Hip Hurrah to all who love their country, but especially to those in any country who love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior! Let’s serve Him where ever we are, with everything we have.
Prayer: Lord, don’t let us get hung up on differences but instead celebrate our sameness in You! Amen.
