Wish List

Our wish lists are longer than our prayer lists…or are they one and the same?

I wish I was size 10, but I ate three cupcakes.

I wish I had a college degree, but I dropped out.

I wish I had a good marriage, but I am the reason it is failing.

I wish the house was cleaner, but I took a nap instead of vacuuming.

I wish everyone got along, but I feud with my neighbour over miniscule nothings.

I wish I could make some money but I’m not looking for a job.

I wish my kids cared about me, but I didn’t so they don’t.

I wish everyone understood that they owe me a living, but I don’t earn one.

Are we wishing our lives away like Jonah?

But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” “It is,” he said. “And I’m so angry I wish I were dead.”

(Joshua 4:9, NIV)
