You Can’t Save You

It’s you who is getting hurt. Watch these phrases.

Stop harming yourselves by worshiping idols. (Jeremiah 7:6).

Am I the one they are hurting?” asks the Lord. “Most of all, they hurt themselves, to their own shame.” (Jeremiah 7:19)

What is your idol, friend? In the old days, it used to be chocolate. Now it is self-preservation through blood and gore. Why are you carrying guns and knives into the grocery store when you went to buy a loaf of bread?

In the back of your mind, you are determined to ‘get them before they get you.’ You don’t even know who ‘they’ are. Anybody will do. And eventually you attack someone.  And then who goes to jail? You!

Why are you so angry that your quarrel with a neighbour escalates into violence? Why do your children act out? Because their parent who is supposed to love and protect them, is too busy being angry, at strangers, other drivers, other pedestrians, anyone who crosses their path.

And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord. He said, “If you give me victory, I will give to the Lord whatever comes out of my house to meet me when I return, I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.ng.”

When Jephthah returned home, his daughter came out to meet him. “Oh, my daughter!” he cried out. I have made a vow to the Lord, and I cannot take it back.” Her father kept the vow he had made, and she died a virgin. (From Judges 11:30-39)
