The woman was not quite 35, yet she looked a few years older. There was something in the look in her eyes that said she had experienced much in her 30+ years. Yet, she always had a smile on her face and was always willing to help out whenever she could. She freely gave of her time and what she had to give.
I noticed over the course of several months that she always wore the same gold charm necklace. It was a simple gold heart that said, ” Faith.” One day, as we worked together at the church, I had a chance to ask her about the necklace. She smiled and reached up to touched it. ” This reminds me that faith can move mountains and miracles still happen.” She goes on to tell me about her family. She's been married eleven years and her and her husband have five children: two boys and three girls. She purchased the necklace in 2007, after Serenity was born.
Serenity is a miracle baby. In 2005, she and her husband thought their family was complete. He had vasectomy in early 2006. However, God had other plans. Serenity was born on November 7, 2006. Serenity began having trouble breathing shortly after her birth. Doctor's discovered through a battery of tests that there was a heart problem and a heart transplant might be necessary. As Christmas approached, they told us not to expect her to come home. However Serenity is a fighter. She did get to come home for Christmas. In fact, as the time approached for her heart surgery, she only needed open heart surgery, not a heart transplant. God in His infinite mercy and grace completely healed Serenity. There's no doubt he has great plans for her. As we finished our conversation, Serenity's mother said, ” We never lost hope. We put it all in God's hands. We realized He was in control. We left it with Him and He left us with a miracle. “
Is there something you struggle with in your faith journey? Remember, “with God, all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 (NIV)
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. James 1:3 (NIV)
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
God is in control. May we constantly be reminded of what faith can do.
