A Plate Full

1 Corinthians 10:13No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful and He will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing, He will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it. (MSG)

My patient husband has doggedly tested (not cooking, just eating!) the recipes for my cookbooks. Occasionally, though, he has faltered. Once, after several weeks of casseroles, he mournfully wondered if he would ever see roast beef again.

One time he suggested that dates would improve a muffin recipe. I was not thrilled with the criticism and the next day his lunch included one of those same muffins with a large date shoved into its centre.

Eventually, each book was published and our relationship recovered from the trauma of taste-testing new recipes!

God has His own form of testing and He even gives the answers! He gages the test to our strength and then provides endurance and a way of escape. He’s waiting for us to look up because that is our way out.

Prayer-Lord, when we are tempted to look at what is on our plate instead of seeking your face, remind us again. In Jesus’ name. Amen
