I pray never to have live very parent’s worst nightmare, the death of a child.
I have known those who have or who have lost children or other close family members well before the aging process was a factor.
It’s painful to watch, experience and hear about, even essentially on the outside looking in.
While working at a newspaper several years back, I remember when a part-time high school student working for us was killed in a car accident. I remember the shock, the palpable sense of loss at the funeral. If I think about it for long it seems like yesterday; it was a decade ago.
I came across a blog by CNN editor Joe Sterling talking about the anniversary of his teenage son’s death. It’s heartbreaking, but a good read nonetheless, a reminder of what is truly important among the seemingly unending minutia of daily life.
