Galatians 3:26-28–ye are all children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, neither bond nor free, there is neither male or female: we are all one in Christ Jesus. (KJV)
Personal life experience taught me that there are two types of people in the world, gluttons and non-gluttons. Gluttons (like I used to be) hide food in toilet tanks, under mattresses and on top of china cabinets. They eat entire chocolate cakes in one sitting and make chocolate chip cookies just so they can eat the dough. Non-gluttons control their eating. They don’t care about food. Astonishing!
God sees us collectively in a different light. If we believe in His Son Jesus, He calls all of us His children! God brought us to a common level where food habits, nationalities, position and sex are not barriers. In Christ, we are all one. Astonishing!
Instead of seeing ourselves as better (or worse!) than the next fellow, let’s work at overcoming worldly barriers that divide. Focusing our eyes upward instead of sideways would be a good way to begin.
Prayer: God, we have personal hang-ups about our Christian siblings. Forgive us for setting ourselves too high (or too low) on the Who’s Who scale. Gear our attitudes to your level, the place where we are all one in Christ. For His sake. Amen.
