We all say we don’t, but we do. My friend envies the way her hubby can sleep anywhere and at any time. She describes him this way: Earl could sleep on a clothes line. Earl, on the other hand, likely envies her because she can sit through a concert and not snore in the middle.
Envy rots our bones. (Proverbs 14:30, AMP) It is described as an evil eye. (Mark 7:22, AMP)
Envy is not a spiritual gift! (1 Corinthians 3:3, AMP)
The high priests delivered Christ up to die because they envied him. (Mark 15:10, AMP)
Even worse, to envy is to hate.
You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your desires go unfulfilled; [so] you become murderers. [To hate is to murder as far as your hearts are concerned.] You burn with envy and anger and are not able to obtain [the gratification, the contentment, and the happiness that you seek], so you fight and war. You do not have, because you do not ask. (James 4:2, AMP)
Prayer – Father God, show us our envy and then clean it out of us. For Christ, Amen
