Fanning the Flames

For absolutely no reason that I could figure out, some of my tax papers from 2007 were all over the floor of my walk-in closet. As I stood there, another one drifted to the floor. Then I realized that because the overhead fan was on, it had slowly, one by one, sucked the papers out of their envelope where they then drifted to the floor. Immediately I thought of this verse.

For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.(2 Timothy 1:6, NIV)

If a little house fan could achieve such success with a bit of paper, imagine what could happen to us if we purposely fanned the spiritual gift God gives us?

The Message Bible puts it this way. And the special gift of ministry you received when I laid hands on you and prayed—keep that ablaze!

And why you ask? Verse 7 answers that question for us.

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7, NIV)

Prayer- Father, thank you for the spiritual gift you gave us. Help us to recognize it and use it for your glory.
