Our Canadian Coat of Arms declares ‘A Mari usque ad Mare,’ which means From Sea to Sea and of course we do stretch right from the Atlantic to the Pacific and north to the Arctic.
However, the motto is actually based on the following Bible verse. “He shall have dominion from sea to sea and from the river unto the ends of the earth (Psalm 72:8, KJV)”.
In 2017, we celebrate our 150th year as a country.
Our Coat of Arms also includes the phrase, Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam, meaning “They desire a better country.” which reminds me of this Bible verse:
But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. (Hebrews 11:16, KJV)
Our Charter of rights states that “Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law.”
Let that be true of all our countries.
Prayer – Lord, help us honour you as citizens of our earthly and heavenly countries. Amen
