Is Lady Gaga a Christian?

When you think of well-known Christians in entertainment, the list is pretty familiar.

Now can you add arguably the hottest name in popular music?

You be the judge.

Lady Gaga has become a pop music superstar with her wild costumes and memorable melodies. She was also raised in a Catholic home and was candid in a Larry King interview about her attraction to religion.

What was striking, other than that she wore a tie and suspenders to match King daily wardrobe of choice, was how her answers were candid and similar to what many Christians ask themselves.

Let me take a quick diversion.

Many of us, when cornered, would love to think we have unshakable faith. Consider this quote, however, from Max Lucado’s best-seller Fearless, released last year. In this snippet, he’s following up on a story about filmmaker Woody Allen, an avowed atheist: “I suppose someone exists who can’t fathom Woody Allen’s fears (of no life after death). There must be in God’s great world a soul who has never doubted God’s existence or questioned his goodness. But that soul is not writing this book.”

If someone as devout and inspirational as Lucado can have even a glimmer of doubt, what does that say about the rest of us?

And in this case, what does it say about Lady Gaga?

Here’s part of what she told King: “I believe in Jesus, I believe in God, I’m very spiritual, I pray. At the same time there isn’t one religion that doesn’t hate or speak against or be prejudiced against another racial group or religious group or sexual group.

“I guess you could say I’m a very religious woman who is confused about religion.”

Confused about religion?

Having a few doubts?

Is it possible Max Lucado and Lady Gaga would actually have something – anything – in common?

A more pertinent question is could her view of faith have something in common to you and I, most of whom are otherwise ordinary people living quite ordinary North American lives?

Consider further:

Gaga said, “I believe I’ll go to heaven, but I’ll suppose I could go either way, couldn’t I?”

Raise your hand if you have always been 100 percent convinced a spot is waiting for you in heaven.

Max Lucado’s hand is down.

Gaga’s hand is down.

My hands are still typing.

This is interesting. Would you guess the difference is how one uses doubt?

I think it’s sad that the Word made is quite clear that one can be assured of salvation and still those who claim it question it. Makes me wonder. Both my hands are up! I know where I will go and I’d love to tell those who doubt that doubt is needless…knowing is simple.

Well salvation is something we must uphold. We can lose it if we turn against God purposefully like Satan. Why someone would do that, I don’t know but they are some who do, they could have once seen themselves going to heaven but that was never God’s plan for them. So no one can be certain of what God has planned for them till its over. When everyone who overcomes will receive their crown. So we hope to overcome. By faith we continue the race.

The question was, have you ever doubts, not are you doubting this second. I think doubts are part of being human and covered by grace through which we are saved through faith. We live by faith and faith is exercised and can grow. It can also be tested and refined. Supposing one comes to faith without doubts, gives implications that are ludicrous and the impression of spoon-fed dogma. One is not born into the kingdom of God as an adult.

Peter, I find your words refreshing and comforting. My hand is down. (Otherwise, I would be lying to myself and others.) It’s not my place to judge Max, Lady Gaga, or anyone else. I used to think I was the only Christian in the world who felt doubt, and that pushed me AWAY from God for a long time. I was sure I wasn’t good enough for Him. Nowadays, I humbly take my place, not with the Pharasees, but with tax collecters and sinners.

I think Lady Gaga should’ve raised her hand. If she thinks she isn’t going to Heaven, then something is wrong with her! I’m a Christian and I know she is one deep inside of her. I guess she just doesn’t see it yet. I hope when I die,I hope I will see her there smiling! Because in the Bible it says if u aren’t a Christian and u are with the devil, then u won’t be able to stay with God. I am DYING to see u say u are a Christian. Love u! May Gid bless u always!

It’s wise for her not raise her hand. I mean it is wise for everyone who believes. We are not all knowing neither do we know if we are predestined to enter the kingdom of God. We can believe now, but what if God changes our heart and we become rebellious to the point we end up denouncing the faith and follow after Satan and his demons with acknowledgement. Satan did it knowing God, how can we who also know the light say we will never do that. Peter said he would never deny Jesus but Jesus said otherwise. So we can’t be certain but that doesn’t mean we can’t run the race.

Just because she has a small doubt doesn’t mean she has something wrong with her in that respect. as Human being we all make mistakes and do bad things we sin, and of course we wonder where the limit is and after reading the entire bible sometimes we wonder, Will I got to Heaven? for some who cry Lord Lord will not enter the kingdom. there is too much judgement and criticism sometimes when we should see each other as equals. we all sin and make mistakes. Love equally for loving God and people is the greatest commandment. I believe Lady gaga’s heart is in the right place. and she’s very open and transparent about her struggles and I respect that because sometimes as christians we struggle with being open and transparent.

If we believe Jesus Christ is Lord, God in the flesh who died for our sins, we can be sure we will enter heaven. Putting works before Jesus is not correct, rather Jesus first and let the works show you believe Jesus. Jesus tells us to feed the poor and other good commandments, we do that because we love him. Now that does not mean we can keep all of Jesus commands, for this reason he says they are some who will have a greater reward than others. They will be some Greater in the kingdom and some least, the least are the ones who just believed in Jesus but didn’t do or teach the commandments, regardless their faith is counted as righteous or as a good work. Now we can’t all raise our hands because the bible does speak of people who have seen the full light of God and than rejected him. This means they believed and than rejected him.Like Satan who was once an angel he was fully aware of the light or God but later opposed him. So what God has planned for all of us is his own knowledge,we can only hope he doesn’t harden our hearts and have us predestined to destruction.
