A friend just sent me one of those delightful emails with pictures of cats playing with birds and dogs, puppies being nursed by a mother pig, and lions caring for an animal that in real life would be its prey.
We smile, sigh and think “Isn’t that sweet?”
Do you really think that these animals are for real? I do. They are another way God lets us glimpse his reality, the way things used to be before sin deformed our world; the way things will be again when Jesus returns.
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. (Romans 8:22, NIV)
The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,” says the Lord. (Isaiah 65:25, MSG)
Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we’re tired of it! We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less. (2 Corinthians 5:3-5, MSG)
I guess now we have to ask ourselves if we are exhibiting heaven today. Or are we living in a way that shows the old only what it is, instead of what it can and will be.
Prayer- Lord may our lives exhibit your reality and not our own agenda. Amen.
