Old Habits Die Hard

Resolutions failed already this year? Me too. Actually, I didn’t make any because I made resolutions through out 2020.  You know how that goes; you made lots of your own.

Be careful to not gain the Covid 15 pounds. Be sure clothes still fit. Learn to like what is in my pantry, no dashing out for one ingredient. Value porch visit. Have extra masks at the ready.

But now the calendar says 2021 and life hasn’t changed all that much. The other habits we ignored are still with us. We took offence because…  We lied because…   We stopped…

Yes. Me too. We are not alone.

Again, and again, the Israelites disobeyed God. Even after forty years of the wilderness, they still doubted, disobeyed and even had the nerve to lie about it.

Then they answered Joshua, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you.

(Joshua 1:16-17, NIV)

Just as they fully obeyed God!!! Who are they kidding! This they did not do.

In 2021, let’s be fully truthful. We will make mistakes and errors. However, if we acknowledge them to God, he will forgive us and help us do better. Let this be our motto.

Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, … But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

(Joshua 24:15, NIV)
