Many years ago, I asked my husband to pretend he was the driving instructor and give me a mock driving test. Well, it wasn’t pretty, but it did give me insight into what lay ahead of me. I did eventually pass the test and that practice run had a lot to do with it.
Now in Luke 9 and 10, Jesus set up practice runs for his disciples.
Then Jesus called together the Twelve [apostles] and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases, And He sent them out to announce and preach the kingdom of God and to bring healing. (Luke 9:1-2, AMP)
Now after this the Lord chose and appointed seventy others and sent them out ahead of Him, two by two, into every town and place where He Himself was about to come (visit). (Luke 10:1, AMP)
Their practice runs didn’t turn out as well as my driving exam.
She (Mary Magdalene) went and reported it to those who had been with Him, as they grieved and wept. And when they heard that He was alive and that she had seen Him, they did not believe it. (Mark 16:10-11, AMP)
Of course we know that eventually they got it right. (Mark 16:20, AMP) So if it seems that the Lord has you doing practice runs right now, never fear. It will come in handy when the big test comes up.
Prayer – Lord, may we remember what you teach us so we can live it. Amen
