A stronghold has the meaning of a fortified place of security or something in our grasp that we cling to. Our problem is that we cling to the wrong things; things that destroy us from the inside out. For me, it was bulimia, an all-consuming eating disorder.
The Bible tells us to demolish them, meaning get rid of them, with violence if necessary.
My stronghold took time and effort; two steps forward and sometimes one step back but in the long run… but through that struggle, I learned this.
The Lord is good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows, recognizes, and has knowledge and understanding of those who take refuge and trust in Him.
(Nahum 1:7, AMPC)
For the weapons of our warfare are not physical weapons of flesh and blood, but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds,
We refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the true knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One.
(1 Corinthians 10:4-5, AMPC)
Just as nations set boundary lines, so we can set boundary lines and only let in the good stuff!
