The World Is a Stage

What do Martin Clunes and Andy Griffith have in common? They both took on small acting jobs that grew into long running television series. For Martin Clunes, it was Doc Martin and for Andy Griffith, Matlock.

Now suppose both had refused those tiny original parts. Someone else would own their success story.

God often calls the small and insignificant to greater things.

Witness Saul, Israel’s first king who hesitated in his first small part.

1 Samuel 9:21a-Saul said, Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And is not my family the least of all the families of the clans of Benjamin (AMP)?

He took the part all right but when he didn’t play it to the hilt?

1 Samuel 13:14-But now your kingdom shall not continue; the Lord has sought out [David] a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince and ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you (AMP).

What small part are we playing right now? Are we honouring God by obeying him, even in this tiny role? Remember that small roles often lead to starring positions. What we do in the small and ordinary will tell how successful we will be in the big ones.

Prayer: Lord, thanks for reminding us that the world is a stage and we are your representatives on it…Amen.
