This poem is about overeating, but it will fit your overdoing life too. Who wins in your head and heart? Trusting that it is Jesus!
Silly Suzie or Sanctified Sally
That’s Silly Suzie on my left, my shoulder left you see
And Silly Suzie always tries to get the best of me.
She laughs when I would be so good and pushes me to fall
Too often, I heed her voice, so sneaky when she calls.
And on the other shoulder, Sanctified Sally perches bright
And when I follow her thoughts, I always do what’s right.
She’s the one I want to be, serene and in control
But when Silly Susie speaks up I empty every bowl.
I grab that food with both hands and gobble it all gone
And Sanctified Sally closes her eyes, she lost another one.
And only when I’ve swallowed do I sense her soft reply
“Once more you fell for folly” and she sobs a deep sad sigh.
Will I ever learn my lesson and pick what’s right for me…?
Not till I strangle Suzie and drowned her in the see.
The see of opening up my eyes and learning to do right
But none of that will happen if I never put up a fight.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. (Isaiah 40:29, NIV)
Prayer- Lord, we know that you give us the power to walk rightly. Open our eyes to see it and obey. Amen.
