Revelation 3:15, 16– I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not hot. You’re stale. You’re stagnant. You make me want to vomit. (MSG)
Once in a long while we get invited to a really classy event. You know the kind that lay out three forks, six knives, 14 glasses and linen table napkins. We are not too practiced at this so we watch our hostess carefully to see what’s what.
At a recent event, we were introduced to even more complications! This one? Palate cleansing foods in between courses. Actually this one was very tasty. Lemon zest ice cream! Yum.
There are many variations in palate-cleansing foods. For instance, Raita, a mixture of shredded cucumber, yogurt, cream, mint and cumin is served in some cultures between bites of hot food. Gari, (thin slices of marinated ginger) is served between sushi courses.
It sounds like Jesus could have used a palate-cleanser or two. It’s clear that He doesn’t care for lukewarm Christians. Where are we on Christ’s temperature gauge?
Prayer: Lord, we didn’t realize. But now that we do, our hearts are turned once more to you only. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
