Battle of Psalms

My friend Joan knew just enough scripture to be annoying. She picked out the bits that fed her disbelief and she quoted it. Bad enough she fed her own foolishness but she passed it on to others. I expect Satan enjoyed the help.

“Why bother?” she said. “What difference will God make in my life? After all, if the earth and its fullness are the Lord’s then I get what all the Christians get. And the Bible says that his tender mercies are over everything and they endure, he is compassionate!  (Psalm 24:1, Psalm145:9, Psalm 136:1, Psalm 111:4)

“So I expect he will be compassionate to me.”

Okay, so she wants to get down and dirty, fighting me with scripture? She picked the wrong gal. I countered with Psalm 50:16-17, NIV.

But to the wicked person, God says:” What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.

I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned

and done what is evil in your sight. (Psalm 51:3-4, NIV)

The fool says in his heart,” There is no God.”(Psalm 53:1, NIV)

Then together we prayed her salvation and she learned a few new verses.

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God'” (John 3:3, ESV).

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, ESV)

Prayer-Thanks God for a new believer! Amen.
