Brooding Hens

A brooding hen is one that sits continuously on a batch of eggs to hatch out chicks. You can’t make a hen go broody; she just decides to do so. She protects the eggs at all costs. She even pulls out her chest and stomach feathers to cover the eggs and then is able to get her bare skin (and more heat) on the eggs.

That’s why the word ‘brooding’ caught my attention when I read this verse.

The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:2b, AMP)

Isn’t it delightful to think of God brooding over creation?  Like those broody hens, he even sent us heart warmth through his Son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross and rose from the dead just for us.

Prayer- Lord may we always be grateful for your broodiness on our behalf. Amen.
