The article said that we could not avoid pain but that we could avoid suffering. I do not believe this is possible unless you decide never to love or care about anything.
One of the synonyms for suffering is pain. So then, aren’t the two the same thing?
Perhaps the writer meant that we might have pain but that the follow up suffering is a choice?
Women experience the pain of childbirth but anyone who thinks that they can eliminate any suffering involved with raising those children is quite deluded.
I could have avoided the suffering of losing my husband, but I would have lost out on the joy of loving him.
Even Christ’s pain involved suffering.

Prayer- Lord, let us never expect a quick fix from pain, but instead bear any suffering involved with thanksgiving. In Christ. Amen.
