Emergency Backup

When the Weather Channel posts what’s been going on around the world, most of us sigh, perhaps pray for the people involved and then put the disasters out of our heads. Not the smartest thing we’ve ever done. Rather, we ought to consider what we have on hand if disaster ever hits in our neck of the woods.

When our power goes out we make do with what we have by eating sandwiches instead of mashed potatoes and a roast of pork. That is fine for a few hours, but if this powerlessness lasts for week, or a month, then what?

We should make sure we have flashlights, batteries, and candles on hand. We can stock up on bottled water, tinned food, battery operated radios, and propane for the BBQ.

I could go on but you get the idea. We rely on power, taking it for granted when it is there, sorely missing it when it is not.

Unlike electricity, God’s power is always available to us.

Isaiah 40:28-29-Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint or grow weary; there is no searching of His understanding.  He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound] (AMP).

Prayer: Oh Lord, Thanks for helping us who have no power, whose arms are weak.  We thank you that your power is constant. May our hearts be constant as well. Amen. (From Job 26:1-2)
