Can you feel it? Your heart (and mine) will pump about 100,000 times today. Imagine you had to skip rope with every beat; or march in time with its rhythm! Whew!
2000 gallons/ litres of blood pass through our hearts every day; 2000 gallons? Does that explain where our extra pounds are hiding?
Hold our breath like a sulky baby? Sure. If you must! Why not? After all, our lungs can hold 5-6 gallons of air. Beware though, they can’t keep it up. Eventually, they’ll use up that temporary supply and we’ll explode into a gasp of oxygen because we can’t live without it.
Our body fights to keep us well, safe and healthy. We feel the pain of a burn, a bump or worse because our bodies’ nerves give notice and protect us.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:14, NIV)
Prayer – Lord, even though we don’t hear our hearts thumping away in our bodies, help us hear you when you speak. Amen
