Did you know that Joseph and David were related? Check David’s family tree. Sure enough, Joseph is in the line-up
These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulon, 2 Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher. (1 Chronicles 2:1-2, NIV)
And then several generations later we find David.
Jesse was the father of Eliab his firstborn; the second son was Abinadab, the third Shimea, the fourth Nethanel, the fifth Raddai, the sixth Ozem and the seventh David. (1 Chronicles 2:13-15, NIV)
Do you share stories from your ancestors? It appears that David did just that. He speaks often of the pit. Was he remembering the stories of how Joseph’s brothers threw him in one?
Did those stories get embellished as time goes on? You know, the kind we tell where great-grandpa was in such and such a battle but by the sixth telling, great-grandpa was leading the rebellion and the Queen knighted him?
It doesn’t seem like it. David had a solid relationship with God who expected and got truthfulness.
Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. (Psalm 25:5, NIV)
How true are your ancestor stories?
Prayer- Lord, keep us in your truth, no matter what the topic…Amen.
