I woke with these words running through my head. ‘If you’ve got the money, honey, I’ve got the time!’ It’s a line from an old country song by Lefty Frizzell. My hubby took it up as his motto. I guess by now you’ve realized that he was a country music fan.
We seldom had the money and we often didn’t have the time, but in spite of that we made the most wonderful memories.
Like the time Ron entered his John Deere tractor into a local tractor pull. He’d built the tractor from scratch and he was raring to go. First he participated in the parade and then he set off for the pull site, only to get a flat tire, a huge expensive flat tire, part way there. But he won first prize, a lovely tractor lamp with his name on the side.
And there was the time he was on jury duty but it was our daughter’s birthday and our son was in the emergency ward at the hospital. We laughed about it later but then it wasn’t so funny.
If you love someone, it doesn’t matter where you hang out, but how you face things together. ‘If you’ve got the money, honey, I’ve got the time!’
Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” (Matthew 8:24-25 NIV)
Prayer – Father, help us treat our family and our situations with love, caring for one another as we care for ourselves. Amen
