Over these last few months, I questioned the why of Ron’s death. My personal pain was so great that I even questioned God’s wisdom in taking him away from me. My personal Bible study brought me to these conclusions.
God knows things that we won’t know or understand until we get to heaven. In our eyes there is no rhyme or reason for loved ones to die. Still, God in his wisdom decides when to take his people home to heaven.
He may call us home when our life’s purpose is finished (2 Timothy 4:7).
He may be sparing us suffering (1 Kings 14:1-14)
Perhaps he is disciplining the person, through death (1 Corinthians 11:29-30, 32)
As hard as it is for those of us who remain, it is always better for a Christian to be with the Lord than it is to stay here on earth.
2 Corinthians 5:8-We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord (NIV).
While all of that was helpful, I took more comfort from Psalm 116:15.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants (NIV).
Oh, God knows and understands and even shares our pain!
Prayer: Lord, as we go into this New Year, may we be ever confident that your love endures for ever. (From Psalm 136:25b)
