My Favorite Mouth Verses

A reader asked me to name my favorite verses…what a task. I love so many. Most of mine involve my mouth for I know from experience it is a wild thing constantly in need of correction.

Here are a few for you to ponder or even add to your own memory box.

“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. (1 Peter 3:10, NIV)

Before a word is on my tongue, you, LORD, know it completely. (Psalm 139:4, NIV)

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29, NIV)

Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands? (Ecclesiastes 5:6, NIV)

Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. (James 1:26)

Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. (Psalm 141:3, NIV))

Sometimes I read them in other versions. No matter, when God is speaking to me about my big mouth, he always makes sure I know about it.

Prayer- Father, make sure we hear you clearly when you speak. If necessary, give our ears a good shake! Amen.
