This sounds like a joke opener doesn’t it?
Two disciples were travelling along the road to Emmaus…
The joke is on them because who comes into their midst but Jesus who asks them what they were talking about.
This is what they say to Christ, the Christ who actually experienced what they are talking about.
One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” (Luke 24:18, NIV)
And Jesus says in reply:
“How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” (Luke 24:25-27, NIV)
Jesus had spent three years with his disciples, telling them what to expect and yet they missed the truth.
How often do we question Christ when he tells us something? Perhaps we too need to spend more time with him and get the story straight.
Prayer – Lord, give us courage to trust you, no matter the circumstances. Amen
