Mary’s song is quite famous in Christian circles, (See Luke 1:46-55) but we hardly pay any attention to Zechariah’s Song. He had a sort of meltdown when he encountered an angel (See Luke 1:5-20) and so had no voice till his son was born. I wonder if he suffered a type of stroke.
Anyway, as soon as he wrote the words, “His name is John”, he was able to speak again. (Luke 1:64)
He didn’t waste any time but prophesied in song, first praising and thanking God and then blessing his child with these words
And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” (Luke 1:76-79, NIV)
The Bible says that John grew and became strong in spirit and lived in the wilderness until his public ministry began. (Luke 1:80).
Fathers, what do you say over your children? Do you encourage their hearts with praise or do you drag them down into discouragement?
Prayer – Father God, help us to speak words that honor both you and our children. Amen
