Ephesians 5:22, 25–Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show your support for Christ. Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting.(MSG)
To My Wife
Wife of my heart, it is you. You made my life so complete.
You make my dreams all come true. So loving, so loyal, so sweet.
Sharing each laugh and each tear, faithful and true to the end.
To me you will always be dear, my sweetheart, partner, friend.
This is the caption on the ancient fringed pillow top, Dad bought in 1947, while driving cat in the frozen Manitoba North. Mom and Dad had only been married a year or two at that point. Fifty years later, Dad found himself caring for a wife with Alzheimer’s. Even though the woman he learned to cook and clean for, barely resembled the woman he married, dad lived out the love on that tattered pillow top, loving and caring for mom with all his heart, right to the end.
So, dear married ones, how well do we love our spouses? Are we hung up on a bad habit or two? Or loving them unconditionally, the way God loves us?
Prayer: Father God, thanks for our spouses and for the reminder to love them the way your Son loves His church. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
