What to Do

Luke 7:36-37A woman of the streets- a prostitute- heard he was there and brought an exquisite flask filled with expensive perfume. Going in, she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping, with her tears falling down upon his feet; and she wiped them off with her hair and kissed them and poured the perfume on them. (LB)

Many churches, (including mine) take a strong stand against any form of gambling because they understand the personal cost paid by those enthralled by the faint hope of ill-gotten gains. However, that doesn’t stop people from visiting casinos or buying lottery tickets. Sometimes they even give them as gifts to people like me, a person who is totally against any form of gambling.

I wondered what on earth I would do if that ticket won. How could I possibly give any of it to any church anywhere? What to do? What to do? I searched my Bible for answers.

This Luke 7 woman was a prostitute. She paid for that perfume with the proceeds of her sinful life, yet Christ accepted both her and her offering with love (Luke 7:41-50).

No. I didn’t win the lottery but if the circumstances arise, I’ll be ready. How about you?

Prayer: Lord, we are always ready to judge others, but when the ball comes into our own court, the decisions are not so easy. Give us wisdom as we deal with life’s bombardment of ethical questions. Teach us right from wrong. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
