Witch Not Want Not

When people consult spiritualists, mediums, tea cup readers or card, they already know what’s what.

They know what their parents would want, or what to do to save their marriage or how to raise their children.

They just want someone to say something that they like better than the truth.

When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets. Saul then said “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.”
Then the woman asked, “Whom shall I bring up for you?” “Bring up Samuel,” he said. Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has departed from you and become your enemy? The Lord has done what he predicted through me. (From 1 Samuel 28, 5-28)

Samuel’s words hold the key to this story.

Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has departed from you and become your enemy?
The Lord has done what he predicted through me.

Long before he died, Samuel told King Saul what he could expect in return for his disobedience toward God. Saul already knew what to expect. He just hoped that someone would say something different.

Is that you? Do you chase after better words somewhere else? The one and only true Word only comes from the Bible.

God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what. (Hebrews 4:12-13, MSG)

Prayer- Lord, give us the common sense to ask you; listen to you and then do what you say. Amen.
