Why don’t we see what is right in front of us? Today, a full two months after Christmas, I found a manger scene behind a pile of unsorted Christmas cards on the mantel. I know this sounds strange, but when you hear that I collect miniature manger scenes, you can understand how I might miss a few.
Why don’t we see what is right in front of us? Why is there dust on the book case all week but we only notice it when the neighbour pops in for tea?
Why don’t we see the needs of others right in front of our eyes? Maybe that’s what Jesus was referring to in this passage.
For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ (Matthew 25:42-45)
