The ancient Jewish writing called the Talmud says that goodness is just taking away 1/60th of a person’s pain. Now that is doable. What a relief to realize that if everyone does a little bit, it amounts to a big bit.
Think of a family needing after school babysitting a few hours a week and you can only do one day every now and then. Imagine the parent’s relief to hear that 1/60th.
Or a person ahead of you in the grocery line who is short $10.00 to pay their bill. And you offer up a ten-dollar bill. 1/60th relief.
Or a child who just wants a hug. You cannot hug them every day, but you can hug them now. 1/60th relief.
A family in desperate need of a mortgage payment and you give what you can. And everyone else gives what they can. And they keep their home.
If we do what we can, others will be encouraged to do what they can.
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
