I like to watch old movies because of their very nature of cleanliness. For me that means movies made before 1960. Now I discover that my movie channel thinks old movies start in the 1970’s! What!! Am I now an old dude? I guess the answer is yes. I was born at an early age and that early start now makes me an old-timer! I am an antique, and maybe you are too. How do we face this new modern place that is so foreign to us?
Imagine the changes someone faced if they began life in 1923 and are now 100. Time magazine was first published in 1923 and the Disney company was formed. In 1927, the BBC was granted a Royal charter and Mount Rushmore building began. March 3: Time Magazine was first published.
In 1927, Charles Lindbergh made the first nonstop flight from New York City to Paris. 1937 saw the finishing of the Empire State building. Several species vanished from the earth including the thylacine. (Yes, I know. You have no idea what that creature was!) We didn’t have internet till about 1985. I skipped all the wars on purpose.
Oh, the places they’ve been and the things that they saw and the wealth of information they could share. How well do we value our aged and listen?
Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone. (Psalm 71:9)
Note our strength may be gone but our brain is still there. Our mouths talk. We can share our hard-earned wisdom.
