I‘ve been watching too much TV lately and I notice on show or commercial when people are told they are having a baby, they express doubt before joy.
That’s why we should be kinder to Zechariah; even though his messenger was God, not a doctor!
God told about Zechariah that he was about to be a Dad before the baby was even a twinkle in his eye. He sent an angel to Zechariah while he was serving in the temple.
(Note to self: when we are spending time close to God, he can get our attention.)
He even told Zachariah about the baby’s calling and the lifestyle he’d lead. (Luke 1:11-16)
Zechariah had doubts.
Zechariah said to the angel, “How can I be sure this will happen? I’m an old man now, and my wife is also well along in years.”(Luke 1:18, NLT)
Then the angel gives his credentials. “I am Gabriel! I stand in the very presence of God. It was he who sent me to bring you this good news! (Luke 1:19, NLT)
And the angel pronounces the punishment for Zechariah’s unbelief.
But now, since you didn’t believe what I said, you will be silent and unable to speak until the child is born. For my words will certainly be fulfilled at the proper time.”(Luke 1:20, NLT)
What unbelief is stopping you?
Prayer- Father, open our eyes and start our feet. Amen.
