As Milton Berle once said:
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are;
Because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star.
I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far,
For a might-have- been has never been, but a has was once an are.
I read this verse several times till I got the hang of it. A could- be never gives up. They may not get where they want to be in life, but they don’t stop trying. A could-be is someone who reaches beyond what is, to what could be.
A has-been …..Well, he has been. He/she reached the ultimate in their life. Eventually, he gets there, even though others later surpassed him or usurped his place. They got there. They didn’t stop until they did. They had a goal and they kept after it till they got it.
Now, a might-have-been? I don’t think they even tried.
What is your ‘are’ goal? It’s a sure thing you’ll get to it if you choose your goal according to God’s Word.
Romans 4:17b- in the sight of God….. Who gives life to the dead and speaks of the nonexistent things that [He has foretold and promised] as if they [already] existed (AMP).
Right now my ‘are’ dream is to learn how to live this new life of aloneness with grace. I know I can because God promises it is possible.
Isaiah 54:4-Fear not, for you shall not be ashamed; neither be confounded and depressed, for you shall not be put to shame. For you shall forget the shame of your youth, and you shall not [seriously] remember the reproach of your widowhood any more (AMP).
We may only be a could-be on our way to being a may-be but with God’s help, we can be an “Are.”
Prayer: Lord, thanks for giving us Godly scripture-based goals that we can trust to come to pass. In Christ’s Name. Amen.
