One good thing about the internet is that it has stopped the flow of snail mail chain letters. I no longer get requests to join tea towel exchanges or recipe clubs. The bad thing about the internet is that forwarded mailings generally contain words like ‘delete at your peril, forward to everyone on your mailing list before bad luck strikes.’
Why do we forward such junk? Do we really fear those attached curses? They are called chain letters because they chain us to superstition, negative thoughts and the hope that we’ll get something for nothing.
Acts 12:7– behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands (KJV).
Peter was physically freed. We can be mentally free from fear.
Fear is F-false E-evidence A-appearing R-real. We can just choose God.
Prayer: Lord, forgive us for believing fear-inducing statements that are not based on Your Word. Open our eyes to your truth! Amen.
The one thing that I’ve found most fascinating about these chain letters is that someone, somewhere had to be the first person to type it into a computer. Seriously! and Seriously? Why would someone wanna waste time doing that? Is there nothing more productive in their lives that needs doing, than this?! I mean, really, is there anyone out there who truly thinks that forwarding an email to 150 people will bring you good luck; or that if I don’t forward it that Jesus will stop loving me or think that I’ve denied Him?! The human mind is a fascinating thing, and things like this make me notice just how different people are.
