Christ in the Old Testament

You ask someone for a drink and they give you this?

And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not. (See Mark 15:23)

I expect it was the one kindness offered by the soldiers. The drink was intended to ease pain, but Jesus refused it. He felt everything, everything, on our behalf.

As it was prophesied in the Old Testament…

“They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst” (See Psalm 69:21).

“There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it” (See Matthew 27:34).

We think we know pain, have experienced pain? Seriously, folks, oh how the Christ suffered on our behalf.

We now approach the joyful days of Christmas. Remember that with Christmas comes the ache of Easter.

Prayer- Lord, our hearts are heavy with the suffering of the Christ on our behalf. Amen.
