Christian Scholars Conference agenda set

The 30th Annual Christian Scholars Conference will be held June 3-5 at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. “Beauty in the Academy: Faith, Scholarship & the Arts” is the theme for this interdisciplinary academic conference that draws more than 400 scholars from universities across the nation. Featured at this year’s conference will be Patrick Shanley, playwright and director of the film “Doubt,” Dana Gioia, the immediate past chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, and James Elkins, a leading national art critic. • A performance of Doubt with equity actors and a “talk back” with playwright Shanley; • A luncheon with David Miller, director of the Princeton University Faith and Work Initiative, sponsored by the Lipscomb College of Business; • Sessions with artists, authors, critics and filmmakers including Steve Taylor, Sarah Mason, Charlie Peacock, Craig Detweiller and David Dark; and • A panel with investigative reporter and MacArthur Genius Award winner Jerry Mitchell, whose 20-year investigation into civil-rights-era crimes contributed to four high-profile convictions, and John Seigenthaler Sr., a Kennedy staffer who experienced the Freedom Rides.
