When I searched for more information on Jeremiah 2:13, the sidebars came up with offers to repair my leaky cistern with a drop-in liner, a replacement tank or a new type of water cistern that would end all my poverty.
None of those cisterns can fix spiritual dryness.
God tells us that spiritual dryness comes from two things.
- We have abandoned God.
- We don’t turn back to God, even though he offers us living water. Instead we build our own.
For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, and they have hewn for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns which cannot hold water. (Jeremiah 2:13, AMP)
What does your hand made cistern look like? Binging on food, drubs, alcohol? Is it another cigarette or hours of mind numbing pornography on the net?
Is Israel a servant? Is he a home born slave? Why has he become a captive and a prey? (Jeremiah 2:14, AMP)
Read this with your name in it. Is ___________a servant? Is _______________ a home born slave? Why has ________________become a captive and a prey?
Why indeed, when God offers us living water when we turn to him instead.
Prayer – Lord, help us to make the right decision, toward you! In Christ. Amen
