In those Columbo detective shows, we knew who-dun-it right from the beginning of the program. The fun was watching how Columbo got the bad guy.
The disciple John sets up his book the very same way. First, he tells us everything that Jesus is and then he spends the rest of the book explaining how he knows this.
In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:1-5, NIV)
John Chapter one-Columbo style. Here is the mystery laid out for you, now I’ll show you how I reached this conclusion. He lays out his proof and then in chapter 21, he shows Jesus in all his fulness as Jesus calls, serves, feeds, forgives, and more.
Do you know Jesus in all his fullness?
