Come As You Are

There were many debates within the early church on what one needed to do to be saved. One such argument broke out among the apostles and the elders in Acts 15. Many still held to Old Testament law and considered circumcision as a requirement for salvation. However, scripture reveals that the gift of God is just that, a gift to anyone who would receive it. There are no prerequisites to qualify for the gift. Just ask for it.

The contemporary Christian music group Pocket Full of Rocks recently released a song titled, “Come As You Are.” The message within it is beautiful. Anyone can come to Christ just as they are, broken and scarred, hurting and lost.

Take a moment to picture who God is. Does an image of a cruel, angry, vengeful judge appear or is the image more of a loving Father? God is the great I Am. He is the creator and He will be the ultimate judge, but ultimately, God is love, and all of creation is His. All of creation was created for one purpose, to fellowship with and worship, God the Father. There are no prerequisites to come to God.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8 (NIV)

To avail yourself of the gift of salvation you must be born again. To be baptised by immersion by one having authority putting off the old and taking new life in Christ Jesus.
