Common Sense Cover-Up

Someone sent me a picture of Umbrella Rock which over hangs the Boti Falls in Yilo Krobo District in Ghana. The overhang is big enough to shelter a dozen people or more (should they care to gather under it!) The pivot it stands on is said to be very strong. (Should you care to believe that!)

Funny isn’t it what we believe and what we don’t. This pandemic has us doubting our very own selves. We watch the news one day and the next day the views seem to have changed. Common sense alone should help us pick out the good stuff.  One or two things are self-evident.

Take masks for instance. Imagine being a patient in the operating room and your medical group is spitting, coughing and spewing their tobacco wads into your open gut! They wear masks to protect you!

Of course, masks help. They prevent your fluids from mixing with someone else’s! (P.S. what are lovers doing during Covid-19? -Asking for a friend, ha ha!!)

Distance is another realistic approach to this virus crisis. George has a common cold and we avoid him…pardon the pun…like the plague. This illness is worse than that. If you don’t have anyone around you who passed away from the virus, just give it time. If we keep fighting off common sense, it will happen sooner than you think!

I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth. (Revelation 6:8, NIV)

Is this that plague? I don’t know, but I do know we are suffering from a plague and we can help ourselves to a little bit of safety.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. (Psalm 91:4, NIV)

Yes, God covers us with his feathers and tucks us safely under his wings but it won’t hurt to add a couple of cotton bits over our face too.

Prayer- Lord, we say we pray for wisdom, Lord. Well when it shows up, give us the smarts to use the wisdom that you give us! Amen.
