Fighting between Peru’s government and native Indian tribes over access to oil and other natural resources has prompted the temporary closing of seven Compassion International child development centers in the South American nation. A state of emergency and a dusk to dawn curfew has been put in place by the government. The affected child development centers will provide registered children with food supplies when necessary. Compassion Peru has had very limited communication with the child development centers in the affected area. Because of the violence, Compassion staff does not have access to the area and this affects mail delivery, sponsor correspondence and new registration and updates.
